What are these ingrown hairs?

Ingrown hairs commonly known as shaving bumps, razor bumps or  pseudofolliculitis barbae are hairs that become trapped in hair follicles. They are usually a result of close shave or regular waxing but can occur for unknown reason. In male improper shaving techniques are the major cause of ingrown hairs while in women very frequent waxing causes ingrown hairs. Each ingrown hair results in small-mildly painful pimple with a barely visible hair curling and entering into the center.

The penetration of sharp hairs causes a misguided reaction by your body's immune system that sees your penetrating hairs as "foreign invaders." Your immune system overreacts by attacking the hair with white blood cells and thus produces inflammatory papules and pustules that resemble acne.

Ingrown hairs causes small hard bumps or swellings around hair follicles which can get infected and painful.
To treat inflamed ingrown hairs you are recommended to apply acne cream that contains Benzoyl Peroxide which losses the hair by causing the skin to peel or in some case if the situation is serious you can have your ingrown removed permanently by electrolysis.
